Compostable Bags Help Save The Environment

Compostable Bags Help In Saving The Environment

Global warming has affected all the components of Earth. The dangerous effects of global warming have started unwanted fires in the forest and unwanted eruptions in water. The main reason for global warming is pollution and the excessive use of materials that harm the atmosphere. It also leads to depletion of the ozone layer and encourages the release of greenhouse gases, which indirectly harm the atmosphere. So, if humans want to survive on Earth, then they need to reduce global warming. Thus, they can contribute by using less plastic and switch to compost materials. Moreover, they can start by replacing plastic bags with compostable bags.

Compostable Bags Significance

The compostable bags include bags prepared from natural substances. The original content would consist of potato or corn starch. The manufacturers use a unique process where they treat the starch at different conditions to make the bags. However, the bags would not get decomposed by throwing them in daily garbage. The compostable bags would require decomposition in specific terms such as fix temperature and moisture.

Other biodegradable bags decompose readily with other garbage. However, their manufacturing process is different, and they do not use any natural product. The biodegradable bags comprises of chemicals that use micro-organisms in the manufacturing process. So, during decomposition, the micro-organisms would get active and help in dissolving the bags. However, it releases methane gas while decaying, which is harmful to the environment.

Pros And Cons

Thus, compostable bags have many advantages over biodegradable bags, and the list below states that.

Pros

  • The bags are readily available in the market, and they are quite thicker compared to the regular plastic bags.
  • The size of the bags is a standard that supports easy fitting in trash cans.
  • The bags comprise of natural material and does not contain any traces of chemicals.
  • They are thick enough that it would not split when the person uses it for carrying something substantial.

Cons Of Compostable Bags

  • The life of the bag is short, and so they might lead to the generation of moisture in the trash can itself.
  • If the atmosphere inside the trash can turns out to be suitable, then the bag can disintegrate in the can itself. So, the person cannot throw something hot or humid in the containers.
  • The bags are expensive, and some people cannot afford them for daily use.
  • The bags cannot fulfill the task of being regular bags because they do not have a long life. So, they would not be able to withstand the journey from the dustbin to the curb and the garbage heap.

Thus, the compostable bags have limited uses, but still, it would be one step towards reducing global warming. People can find other options to use the bag. For example, if they have their compost heap, then the use of the bag in it would enhance the process. Thus, in this way, the person can fulfill two tasks of maintaining the compost heap and using environment-friendly bags. Moreover, it would also work in favor of saving the environment.
